Hey, I’m Brendon.

I grew up in Southeast Alaska, where power outages, rough weather, and self-reliance were just a normal part of life — not a trend, and definitely not a catchphrase. Whether we were hit with 80 mph winds, surprise snowstorms, or out hunting alone for the weekend, being prepared wasn’t optional. It was survival.

After moving to the Northwest at 18, I started to hear stories about people going without power for a few days and feeling overwhelmed — stuck without heat, light, or even a way to make a hot meal. That’s when it hit me: Most emergencies look different on the surface but require the same basic skills and gear underneath.

I’ve spent years testing what actually works — not just in survival situations, but on the trail, in a truck bed, or even in a blackout with kids and no cell service. From hiking and camping to backwoods hunting and everyday life, I’ve dialed in what I trust in my own kit and why.

Stormy Peaks is about bringing that experience to everyday people and families. Not to scare you — but to help you feel confident. Confident that when the lights go out, when the roads are closed, or when your weekend adventure takes a left turn, you’ll be ready.

What Eighth Grade in Alaska Taught Me About Survival

When you grow up in Southeast Alaska, survival isn’t something you read about — it’s something you live.

In 8th grade, our class was dropped off on remote islands with just what we could carry in a 1-pound coffee can. Three days. No tents. No electronics.  Just our sleeping bags, visqueen for shelter, and a few essentials we packed from a list given to us, nothing more. It was cold. Wet. Real.

That trip taught me more about what matters in a survival situation than any manual ever could.  It came down to this -staying calm, thinking through the problem, and trusting the gear we packed. A little preparation and knowing how to use what we had made all the difference. I’ve seen panic do more damage than the storm itself.

Today, I still approach prepping with that same mindset — not fear, not overwhelm, just practical confidence. That’s what Stormy Peaks is all about: helping real people stay ready, not scared.

Yes, this is a real program. It still happens today in Ketchikan, Alaska. And yes — all you get is a 1lb coffee can.
